Fashion Sunglasses Make You Look Good And Will Probably Help You See In Bright Sunlight

Wednesday, February 17th, 2010

Many people consider sunglasses to be simply a fashion accessory, while in fact they may be more of a necessity than you realize. However, in many cases they are looked at as fashions accessories and are available in many different styles and price ranges. They are often used as both a fashion accessory and as a protection device.

There are several things that should be considered when purchasing Tom Ford sunglasses. The first thing that should be considered is your eyes. If you wear glasses for vision, then you may need to purchase prescription shades for wearing when exposed to the sun.

Prescription shades are used in the same manner as reading or regular glasses. The difference with these from your other glasses is simply that they have been tinted. Often this tint is UV sensitive and will adjust based on how bright the sunlight is.

In many cases if you are purchasing prescription glasses you may be able to get a second set that have tinted lenses. There are many eyeglass retailers that offer a free pair of tinted lenses when you buy regular glasses. If you buy prescription tinted lenses separately you will probably pay the same price as your regular lenses.

The lenses in these glasses often offer a variety of sun protection, referred to as the amount of ultra violet (UV) protection. The amount of UV protection can be very important, considering the fact that these lenses are really protection from the sun and not just a fashion accessory. Sunlight can be hazardous to the naked eye and this is why these accessories were created originally.

This long-run potential for causing damage to your eyes is the original reason for protective eye wear, but over time they have become a fashion accessory. The emphasis on fashion has become so great that often the least expensive products do not provide protection from the sun. On the other hand, prescription lenses are designed to handle these harmful rays.

Your primary concern when shopping for sunglasses should be protection, then you can worry about fashion. These glasses have become so popular that there is something to satisfy just about every taste. The best glasses make you look good and allow you to be able to see well.

One way to decide on style is to select a frame color that accents your skin tone. While silver frames may look good on some people, they do not necessarily look good on everyone. There are also a wide variety of colored frames and you will find that selecting a colored frame is strictly matter of personal taste. You may also want to select the shape of the frame based on the shape of your face.

While Tom Ford sunglasses are often considered a fashion accessory, designer sunglasses are foremost a protective device. They should help you see better in bright conditions and also protect your eyes from harmful UV rays. If you wear prescription eyewear then you may be able to save money on prescription sunglasses by purchasing them both at the same time. Your primary concern should be the amount of protection provided, with how they look as your second consideration.

How Much Do Your Designer Glasses Say About Your Personality

Sunday, July 12th, 2009

Glasses can make, and on occasion define, the man (or woman!). John Lennon was so attached to his round coloured Windsor style glasses that the style is now almost solely referred to the ‘Lennon’. Apart from demonstrating the power of designer glasses in terms of style, that also illustrates the importance of the other component of contemporary celebrity – the modern media. The ‘Lennon’ could as well have been called the ‘Groucho Marx’, the ‘Mahatma Gandhi’ or even the ‘Joseph Stalin’, all of whom wore the same style but it was Lennon’s name that stuck.

The movie Top Gun, starring Tom Cruise as Lt Pete “Maverick” Mitchell and Kelly McGillis as Charlotte “Charlie” Blackwood with adequate support from Val Kilmer as  Lt Tom “Iceman” Kazansky, launched several careers and fuelled many an adolescent fantasy, arguably the real stars though were the aviator sunglasses that adorned the cast in most of the movie. When the film aired sales of the aviator style specs soared with it, as the F14 Tomcat jet fighters, which at the time were the zenith of US naval aviation. Aviator style shapes are also the preferred designer sunglasses of Cristiano Ronaldo and were the accessory of choice for the late king of pop, Michael Jackson.

Obviously the main purpose of designer glasses for most people is image, but that image doesn’t always mean looking as cool as possible. You only have to look as far as the two Ronnies with their horn rim specs which were all the logo their show really needed. Just as iconic as Lennon or Cruise, only their image projection purpose was to make the wearers look comfier and sillier than normal. Snooker player Dennis Taylor’s famous designer glasses had a distinctive, swivel-lens, upside-down design. They might have looked more than a little strange but there’s no question they helped him win the world snooked title in 1985. One strange celebrity glasses situation was that of comedian Eric Sykes who was never seen without his trademark black horn rim specs. Those designer glasses contained no lenses at all and were actually a bone-conducting hearing aid as Sykes had become profoundly deaf as an adult.

Designer Glasses Are about Style and Substance

Sunday, July 12th, 2009

Choosing new glasses or sunglasses changes the way you look.Choosing the right glasses isn’t just about improving your eyesight but also about communicating your personality. You want to know that your glasses look great on you as well as being comfortable and functional, and for this reason more and more people are choosing to go for designer frames.

There is a seemingly endless selection of different designer styles in all shapes and sizes, colours and materials. It can be a bit overwhleming deciding between so many different styles. You should know what sort of image you want to present before choosing new designer glasses. For work wear a more sensible and plain style may be more appropriate.  If you want to make a statement and go for bright unrestrained glasses there are dozens of recognised designer brands out there, including Prada glasses for example that combine an intrinsic sense of style with the name recognition that is more of a fashion and lifestyle statement.  Whichever way you lean, choose designer glasses to suit the shape of your face and not just your outfits or your desired social standing. The same goes for buying new designer sunglasses.

People with a square face look best in oval shaped or round glasses. If your face is wider at the top a smaller style of frame will look best, with low sides and either rounded or square. Styles with decoration at the temples or ones which are wider at the top than the bottom will do more to draw attention to your face shape than balance it out. People with a round face and chin can get away with wider styles.  Styles that have small round shapes and very large frames will make your face look rounder and should be avoided.

Oval Faces with a wide forehead, gently curving jaw and high cheekbone will suit pretty well any style, so your choice is virtually unlimited.  Long faces with high cheekbones and a deep forehead will suit wide frames and a strong top line.  A larger, square frame will help ‘balance’ a long oval face, although you should avoid small square shapes. Bold, bright designs will suit you if your face widens at the jaw, but narrower frames will not look so good.

With designer sunglasses in particular, remember that, aside from making you look good,   the primary role of these items is still to protect your eyes from the harmful effects of UV radiation. If at all possible try the glasses on before buying to be sure of the comfort and style.  Never forget that, despite the fact that they have a designer label which is a public statement of your desired public persona, ultimately the only one you have to please be yourself!

Choosing Designer Sun Glasses

Tuesday, April 28th, 2009

For some, Designer Sunglasses are a crucial accessory. Whether you choose sunglasses to protect your eyes from the sun, or you choose them to make a big impression on the beach, everyone can find a pair to suit their lifestyle. Moreover, if you are like most, you prefer quality designer sunglasses over the cheap kind you can buy as a last chance item at a convenience store counter. In the post below we give you some tips on choosing designer sunglasses that will give you a great, stylish look and decent eye protection.

Firstly, you should try on a number of different pairs of designer sunglasses to find the style that suits your face but that are also a comfortable fit. Many people make the mistake of buying sunglasses that they like the style of instead of ones that fit properly. Your new sunglasses should be a great fit. Comfort is important as you’ll want to wear your sunglasses frequently.

Once you have the right fit down, you’ll want to consider style. This can be tricky as not every style you like will look good on your particular face. So, it’s worth going with a friend to the store to try on as many pairs of designer sunglasses as you can, to find a style that looks good on you.

Though many people buying designer sunglasses overlook this one in favor of how they look - it is absolutely crucial that you pick a pair that offer your eyes protection from harmful UV rays. Most designer sunglasses will offer this feature, but it’s worth checking as even some expensive ones don’t.

Finally, when buying designer sunglasses you sometimes get the option of choosing polarized lenses. This depends on your personal preferences. Normally, polarized sunglasses are used by sports enthusiasts to help improve their vision and performance in strong sunlight.

Could lens implants make glasses a thing of the past?

Saturday, April 18th, 2009

It may sound like science fiction but more and more people are opting to bin their reading glasses in favour of having artificial plastic lens implants inserted into their eyes instead. The procedure is becoming increasingly popular, particularly amongst middle aged people who want to avoid the possible onset of presbyopia, or the deterioration of sight related to age. It almost sounds too good to be true, surely if it works it could be the end to all our worries about our eyesight?

The idea of having your natural lenses removed from your eyes and replaced with a small piece of plastic might not be one for the squeamish, but in fact the procedure does work surprisingly well. The number of patients opting for the surgery has doubled since 2004, with most people reporting that the implants have made a huge difference to their sight, often meaning they no longer need to wear their prescription glasses at all.

So how do the lenses work? Well, the natural lenses in the eye stiffen with age, losing their ability to bend and focus properly. The implant procedure removes the natural lens from the eye and replaces it with an Intraocular lens, which uses the muscles of the eye to mimic the natural lens movements and enhance the eye’s optical abilities. The procedure takes less than 30 minutes – the patient is given a local anaesthetic and then a small incision is made to remove the old lens and insert the new one in its place.

Lens implants as a preventative measure are not currently available on the NHS and the private procedure is not cheap, usually costing somewhere between £2,500 and £3,000 per eye. But when you think about it, being able to see both near and far without being dependant on glasses, escape from the discomfort of wearing them, or even being able to wear stylish designer sunglasses without having to worry about buying prescription lenses could actually be worth it!

Computer games could help to improve eyesight

Friday, April 17th, 2009

After years of being told that video games are bad for your health and especially your eyes, a new study has proved that in fact playing some games may actually help improve your vision, and could even prevent you from needing glasses in the future. The study, conducted by the University of Rochester, demonstrates that regularly playing certain games can improve a person’s contrast sensitivity function, or their ability to distinguish between different shades of grey. But does that really mean the game has actually improved your eyesight?

Shades of grey might not sound particularly ground-breaking, but contrast sensitivity is one of the most easily damaged functions of the human eye. People who suffer from low contrast sensitivity find it harder to see at night or to pick out small details like spots on clothing, and often the only way to treat the problem is with increasing strength prescription glasses or eye surgery. Some now believe that computer games could be used to train the eyes to develop these skills, and that it’s possible the same method could even be used to treat people who suffer from Amblyopia or ‘lazy eye’, a condition that affects the brain’s ability to correctly register signals from one eye.

But it’s not all video games that are thought to be beneficial in this way. The study compared different types of computer games by testing young adults who did not normally play games before and after a period of playing them regularly. The results suggested that subjects who played first-person shooter or action games like Call of Duty showed a 43 per cent improvement on average, whereas those who played non-action games such as The Sims 2 showed hardly any.

So if gaming could help us avoid eye problems should we all be rushing out to buy an XBOX with as many action games as we can find to ensure that our designer sunglasses will remain our only visual aids far into our future? Well, unfortunately no. For a start the study stresses that not all action games will work, which means in other words, most of them probably won’t. Not to mention the fact that although these games may help develop some areas of your eyesight, it’s still not a great idea to be sitting in front of a screen for long periods of time, or to allow gaming to replace other activities that are necessary to staying fit and healthy. In theory it’s certainly a nice idea, but it’s important not to forget that it’s just as possible that video games could well be harmful in other ways.
