Pink Eye Secrets have Revealed

Saturday, March 13th, 2010

You’re probably familiar with a little disease called pink eye, also known as conjunctivitis. If you haven’t experienced this nasty little inconvenience first-hand, you may have a child or know someone who’s child has had it. And although it is most commonly known to occur in children, it does affect people of all ages. Pink eye can be very contagious, although not in all circumstances. The contagious type is brought on by a virus or bacteria. The non-contagious type is brought on mostly by allergies. You will know if you have pink eye because the whites of your eyes become red, hence the pink, swollen and generally irritated. The lids and area around the eye can also become red and the infected eye will sometimes frequently tear and / or produce a funny-colored discharge. Sometimes it even causes the eyes to become sensitive to light. If not properly taken care of, pink eye can become quite a serious situation, and if it seems to be getting worse, you should definitely see a doctor.

Pink Eye starts in one eye and very often spreads to the other, usually due to touching your eyes and transferring it from one to the other. Be sure to wash your hands every time you touch your eyes so as not to spread the disease. Those with pink eye should also not wear contact lenses or any eye makeup as these things will further irritate the ailment. If you have used eye makeup while experiencing this discomfort, throw it away and also wash any pillow cases or towels that have made contact with the infected eyes. If the pink eye is not the contagious kind, and if the infection has not yet become serious, there are certain remedies you can try before consulting a doctor. Over-the-counter eye drops or eye washes sometimes alleviate and reduce the symptoms. You can also try a warm compress to help relieve the discomfort and remove any crust that has formed around the eye.

A few things about contact lenses

Sunday, December 6th, 2009

The first contact lenses ever made were developed out of glass. After that, new types appeared, as the ones made of Plexiglas and the rigid gas permeable ones, but, nowadays, the soft contact lens is the most appreciated. Modern materials include silicon hydrogel or other plastic polymers like etalficon A, galyficon A, senofilcon A (used in the fabrication of Acuvue contact lenses). Rigid gas permeable contact lenses are recommended to the persons with dry eyes as these lenses contain no water that could evaporate during the wearing.

The wearing time

A daily contact lens is safer as the risk of infection is lower than at the long term contact lens. This type does not require cleaning, being single-use only. It is sterile. And it even keeps you away from spending money on cleaning or storage solutions. On the other hand, the extended wear type of contact lenses allows people to easily wear contacts for a longer period while allowing oxygenation (they usually have a high oxygen permeability rate). Some people prefer them as their convenience is obvious, but the risk of infection is higher than at the daily type of contact lenses due to the bacterial stagnation, dust accumulation and so on.

One of the most popular contact lenses brand in the world is Acuvue, produced by Johnson & Johnson’s subsidiary Vistakon Company. They provide both vision and esthetical contact lenses. They design disposable lenses, making types that are to be replaced every two weeks (Acuvue, Acuvue 2, Acuvue 2 Colors, Acuvue Advanced and Acuvue Oasys) or less (1-Day Acuvue). They’re also started making extended wear lenses.

Where to buy them from

Contact lens quality is very important. Low-quality contact lenses can damage the eye, causing irritations or hurting the eyelid or the cornea. Attention must be paid to the way the lenses are worn, kept and cleaned because, even if they are high-quality, they present different risks. So, the contact lens must be bought from specialised stores after consulting a doctor. Places where these items are available can be found anywhere as the contact lenses online are very popular. Another tendency is to acquire them from an on-line store. This method can even be less expensive and still offer the same quality. You just need the prescription. But be careful and only choose reputable stores. Your health is at stake.

Contact lens - Bringing Out The Best In Your Eyes!

Friday, November 13th, 2009

Have you ever dreamt of being more charming as a noble princess? Eyes are the windows of one’s soul. People look into your eyes and they see what you feel, and what you care, and the most important thing is that they will remember you through your eyes. Some beauty-pursuers may have a cosmetic surgery on their eyes. Now you may realize that how much people value the impressions on their eyes.

Now you can have your beautiful eyes liberated from the glasses!

Contact lenses are small, optical, often soft, and remarkably thin lenses placed in the cornea of one’s eye. They improve the vision, and sometimes the physical appearance, of eyes.

Contact lenses are usually an alternative to traditional eyeglasses, correcting a person's vision without requiring them to wear ugly, awkward bifocals. However some people with naturally good eyesight still wear contacts, solely for cosmetic reasons - to enhance or change the color of their eyes.

Unlike eyeglasses, contact lenses are not easily affected by weather, are not especially fragile, and actually (in most cases) do a better job at improving a person’s eyesight. Not to mention, a glasses’ framing immediately hinders a person’s field of vision! This is not so with contact lenses that fit directly onto the eyeball and are practically invisible.

For those ready to scrap conventional, unfashionable eyeglasses, local eye care professionals will prescribe a brand of contact lenses to vision care patients and direct them to the appropriate retailer. Acuvue Contact Lenses is the most popular brand around. Acuvue Contact Lenses provides general vision lenses, color contact lenses (with 10 different shades), and astigmatism and multifocal lenses. Acuvue Contact Lenses has also followed a recent trend of extended wear lenses. Generally, lenses are removed from the eye and set in a cleansing solution overnight, but other kinds of lenses are safe to wear for longer than 12 hours. Extended wear lenses are literally discarded after a certain length of time and replaced by another set.

Improve Eyesight Naturally or Would You Like To Go For LASIK surgery?

Saturday, November 7th, 2009

Frankly speaking, it is not nice, it’s annoying and you will look older if you’re wearing eyeglasses but what else can you do if your ophthalmologist will recommend you wearing them especially when you’re having troubles with your vision. But why wear eyeglasses if you can manage to retain your normal vision? Yes, that is precisely right. Ophthalmologists now have another procedure that can do such thing and it’s called Lasik surgery. After ungergoing LASIK surgery, you can already eliminate your glasses weeks after your wound has healed. However, LASIK is not the only way to get that 20/20 vision of yours back, the one that you have when you were younger. You can even improve your eyesight naturally.

Yes, that is right and I should know that because I, too, have improved my eyesight in the most natural way possible and it’s through the help of a downloadable e-book guide called “Vision Without Glasses”. It didn’t explain anything about what kind of supplements you need to consume, it will not tell you of what type of eye surgery you need to undergo to bring that clearer vision of you when you were still young and definitely, it will not tell you what kinds of synthetic medications to consume in order to help you with improving eyesight but it will only teach you some an “Exercises Improve Vision” system that will only require you to do these exercises just a few minutes each day anytime you want and anywhere you are.

Right now, I can’t say that my vision is already perfect but I have observed some good improvements and I’m confident I can finally throw my eyeglasses away when the time comes because there is nothing quite like the system to improve eyesight naturally and this book guide I’ve mentioned and I’ve also used is the best medium for it.

The Difference Between Hyperopia And Presbyopia

Friday, October 16th, 2009

Do you challenges seeing objects that are within arms reach? you may have hyperopia. However, it could also be presbyopia. The truth of the matter is the vision is similar but the causes are very different. As such, they have different treatments as well.

Hyperopia occurs when the light that enters the eye can not focus on the retina, because the eye is to short, the light actually would focus behind the eye. This occurs when the distance between the front and back of the eye is too shot. Hyperopia, similar to myopia, can occur at any age. Young children will often out grow hyperopia as they become older. But if they do not, hyperopia can be treated with corrective lenses, either glasses or contact lenses. For low power hyperopes a pair of reading glasses can be worn. Lasik or other corrective surgeries may also be an available option.

Presbyopia will also cause people to have trouble focusing up close, but it is age an age related phenomena. It is caused by the crystalline lens, inside the eye, actually hardening with age. The optical experience is similar to hyperopia; compromised vision up close. In general, this is corrected with lenses. reading glasses , used to clarify objects up close such as text or computer screens, are commonly used. Another option is to use contact lenses for monovision, when one eye is corrected for distance vision and the other corrected for near vision. Monovision wearers must train their eyes to adapt to a new way of viewing things up close and far away. Contact lenses are available to be fit as a progressive style multifocal, very similar to eyeglasses.

Hyperopia only effects a smaller portion of the population and there are surgical options to correct it. Presbyopia will eventually effect us all, but until very recently was not treated with surgery. Once the lens in the eye loses it’s flexibility seeing up close is nearly impossible, it is then time for treatment. While a couple surgical options are available for presbyopia, most people who are affected opt for the less-risky choice of reading glasses. They are completely safe to wear and are very stylish as well. If your clear up-close vision has been lost due to presbyopia, you may as well get some readers that you like.
